January 23, 2022Introduction: What are Negative Beliefs? and why we need to understand the power of reframing?
Negative beliefs are thoughts that have a negative impact on our lives. They can be about ourselves, others, or the world.
These beliefs can be about anything from happiness to relationships to success. They can also be about our body image and self-esteem. Some examples of negative beliefs are: “I’m not good enough,” “I don’t deserve to have a good life,” and “I am not attractive.”
My life has been filled with terrible misfortunes, most of which have never happened.
~Mark Twain
Once we have made the decision to create change in our lives, it doesn’t just happen. A lot of times, instead of optimistic thoughts, our minds are constantly ambushed by negative visions and thoughts of the horrors that may befall us, our gremlins.
Instead of our minds whispering supportive phrases to move us forward, they shout disturbing scary reasons why things will not work out. As Mark Twain humorously points out, the majority of the things we fear never actually happen.
This all keeps us from positive actions and make us impotent to confront those soul crushing gremlins. We want to create meaningful lives. But how can we under all this negativity?
The power of reframing
The good news is that we have the power to change all that with a technique we’ve already learned that is cognitive reframing, just to remind you, the key points of this technique is that we can’t always change the things that happen to us in life. But we absolutely have a choice to change the way we see it and how we respond to it.
Reframing your mind can help you change the way you think and act. It is the power of alternative views on the same event to create a new frame of reference. Changing your mindset can change your behavior and attitude, and help you feel more confident. This technique is particularly useful for those who are feeling down or hopeless. Reframing can also help you avoid a plethora of negative habits and beliefs.
Reframing your mind can help you neutralize your emotions and prepare for action. It is a great way to deal with negative situations in a positive way, and can be used for all types of problems. Cognitive reframing has been around for centuries and helps people change the way they think about the same experiences. With it, they can also start responding more wisely to the things they have been experiencing.
Fear of change and failure are real
Major and Minor disappointments are real, becoming bitter, letting the situation define who you are, and staying stuck. Those are optional.
The power of reframing your mind can help you to make positive changes in your life. While it takes practice to become a habit, it is a powerful tool for overcoming negative thinking. Once you begin to recognize the power of negative thinking and reframe your thoughts, you can achieve anything you want. You can even learn to overcome phobias by applying the power of positive thinking.
As you embark on your journey towards creating a meaningful life, what negative stories are stuck in your head? What mountains have you made out of molehills? Those still are slowing you down. Just like this technique can help you overcome negativity. It’s even more powerful when it comes to overcoming the fear of change or uncertainty.
A common negative belief is the failure to change one’s mind. When you feel down, you tend to focus on the wrong things in your life. By re-framing your mind, you can shift negative thoughts into more positive ones. If you have trouble noticing your thoughts, try focusing on the positive. You’ll soon notice that your life has become happier.
For example, when I start to feel fear and negativity around all the technologies that I would have to learn to create my first online career, I instead chose to reframe the situation by remembering that, I grew up without the privilege of a computer, the privilege of the internet, and I had to do so many not mind numbing things with just a paper and pencil.
Reframing the situation like this reminded me how lucky I am to work with computers and the internet. And that this technology exists just at my fingertips. It enables me to reach all of you here today. By doing this, I recover my gratitude and perspective, which loosens my mind from its negative voices so that I can move forward with my goals.
