Which Life Goals Should I Set?
June 17, 2022The Role of Bucket Lists to Get Your Life Goals
July 10, 2022Like most of you, I always had a rough list of goals and things that I wanted to accomplish in my life. These goals were spread out between a notebook page somewhere in the back of my mind and somewhere buried in the depths of my computer.
Lessons from my 20s
However, a couple of years ago, I discovered a set of slides written by Internet entrepreneur and hive founder, Ryan Allis, entitled lessons from my 20s. In these 1200+ slides published on his 30th birthday, Allis share the many secrets of success that he had learned in the last decade through building and selling $180 million company to co-chairing President Obama’s tech committee in 2012, to losing 50 pounds, and much, much more.
There were dozens of incredible life lessons that I took away from those slides, and I highly recommend all of you reading them as well. But none of these lessons were so impactful as the recommendation Allis made about goals.
Instead of having some vague ideas about what you want to do with your time on the planet, Allis advocated creating 1 year, 10 years and lifetime goals and revising them every single year.

By structuring his goals. In this way, Ryan did a number of really smart things, which allowed him to create an incredible life full of joy and fulfillment.
First, he made sure that all of his goals were time related. But more than that, the exercise of planning ahead in predetermined time periods not only causes you to assess what you want to accomplish in the short term, but also helps guide and direct you towards the life you want. And the person you want to be in five to 10 years.
What to do after reading Ryan Allis slides?
Upon reading Allis’s slides, I immediately began a practice of regularly creating goals, though personally, I prefer to do six-month, five years and 10 years, and then also lifetime goals.
Every six months, I take a good hard look at my goals for the last six months, and assess how many of them have and have not been accomplished, those that haven’t been completed, I either decide are not interesting to me anymore, or roll into the next cycle.
While I’m at it, I take a good hard look at my 5 years, 10 years and lifetime goals as well, and see if I’m making progress towards them.
I use those longer-term goals to help me create the short-term, six-month goals that will motivate me and push me forward for the next six months.
concurrently. I also check in with myself to see if the longer-term goals are still where and who I want to be in 5 to 10 or even 20 years. And if not, I changed them. Simple as that.
But just by virtue of giving these goals and the direction they represent some actual thought; I’ve been amazed by the results that I achieve.
In fact, I’ve found that through this system, a lot of goals that I thought would take five years, somehow get done in a matter of months. And other goals that were vaguely kicking around in my subconscious get done in a matter of weeks when I focus my energy towards them.
Introduction: Setting long-term goals is important to stay on track.
Setting and achieving long-term goals is an important part of any successful individual’s life. By setting goals and working towards them, you can keep yourself on track and motivated, which is essential for reaching your targets. It’s also a great way to measure your progress and see how far you’ve come. Here are some tips on how to set long-term goals that work for you:
1. Make sure your goals are realistic and achievable. Don’t aim too high or you’ll be disappointed if you don’t reach them, but make sure they’re challenging enough to keep you motivated.
2. Break down your goal into smaller steps so you can track your progress more easily. This will also help keep you motivated, as you’ll be able to see the progress you’re making.
Timelines: Breaking down your goal into smaller goals and setting a timeline for each one will help you stay on track.
One of the best ways to ensure that you reach your goals is to break them down into smaller goals and set a timeline for each one. This will help you stay on track and make progress towards your ultimate goal. It can be helpful to use a visual aid, such as a timeline or a chart, to track your progress. You may also want to enlist the help of a friend or family member to hold you accountable and help keep you motivated.
Setting Goals: What are you trying to achieve? Be specific!
Setting goals is the first step in achieving success. Without specific goals, it’s difficult to know what you’re working towards. When setting goals, be specific about what you want to achieve and how you plan on doing it.
Your goals should be realistic and achievable, yet challenging enough to motivate you. They should also be tailored to fit your individual needs and interests. The best way to set effective goals is to use a goal-setting worksheet or template, which can be found online or in books on goal setting.
The following are some tips for setting effective goals:
1. Make a list of things you would like to achieve in the near future.
2. Break down each goal into smaller, more manageable tasks.
3. Set a deadline for each task and make sure they are all achievable within the set timeframe.
Making a plan: How are you going to achieve your goal?
Tracking progress: Make sure to track your progress and make adjustments when needed.
In order to make progress on a goal, it is important to track your progress and make adjustments when needed. This can be done in a number of ways, such as keeping a journal, using a tracking app, or simply noting your progress in a notebook. Tracking your progress will help you stay on track and make the necessary adjustments to achieve your goal.
Celebrate success! Reward yourself for reaching milestones along the way to your goal.
There is no doubt that hard work and dedication lead to success, but it’s also important to celebrate your accomplishments along the way. Rewarding yourself for milestones achieved en route to your ultimate goal is a great way to stay motivated and focused. Whether it’s taking a break for a yoga class or buying yourself that new dress you’ve been eyeing, find something that makes you feel good and helps you stay positive. Remember, success is within reach as long as you keep your eye on the prize and take things one step at a time.
