February 3, 2023Introduction
Obesity is a growing problem in the world today, and it’s important to find solutions that can help people live healthier lives. One of the most effective solutions for obesity is bariatric surgery, which helps to reduce weight in a safe and effective manner.
Bariatric surgery can be used to treat severe obesity and related health conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, sleep apnea, and more. This surgical procedure has been proven to provide long-term success in helping individuals achieve their desired weight loss goals.
Of course, it quite unbearable for the administration continuing a service with no logic profit.
I am writing my prospective about the pathway of our service flow.
- 1.The initial visit is a new consultation .
- Fifty percent of cases will be referred to cardiology prior to surgery for consultation and ECHO. 20 % will need stress tests.
- About 70 % of cases seek medical management for weight loss therefore all of them will require laboratory work and occasionally pelvic US to rule out ovarian cysts.
- Ideally, most of men cases will require sleep apnea exam prior to surgery which is covered by insurance.
- All patients under going bariatric surgery will be discharged on antibiotics, anticoagulant and other medications (Cash since insurance do not cover discharge medications.)
- Almost all patients seeking medical treatment for obesity will have two medicines from the pharmacy.
- Follow up , though it is usually free but all cases undergoing bariatric surgery will have a follow up lab check up since dizziness and fatigue is common and will have a medical treatment as well.
- Bariatric center refer cases to genecology and gastroenterology for further service probably in 10 % of cases.
- All patients having a hematology diseases will be required pre or post surgery to follow up with the hematology clinic for either iron treatments or even erythropoietin injections
- About 15 % of cases will have gall bladder stones that needs Laparoscopic cholecystectomy .
- Female Patients most likely will need dermatology visits for hair loss and skin contouring and conditioning management.
- Obesity patients whether surgically or medically managed become loyal to the medical center where the success story occurred in which is weight loss.
- High Flow of bariatric surgical cases will encourage mega medical suppliers support the medical institution with high flow cases.
- Such support is definitely appreciated since it is valuable.
