January 5, 2018Preparations for vaginal atrophy (Topical HRT)
OESTROGENS, TOPICAL:
Indications: Atrophic Vaginitis associated with Menopause, Atrophy of Vulva, Dyspareunia due to Menopause-associated Vulvovaginal Atrophy.
Contraindications: Activated Protein C Resistance, Acute Thromboembolic Stroke, Breast Carcinoma, Deep Venous Thrombosis, Disease of Liver, Endometrial Carcinoma, Estrogen-Dependent Neoplasm, Metrorrhagia, Myocardial Infarction, Neoplasm of Female Genital Organ, Pregnancy, Pulmonary Thromboembolism, Thromboembolic Disorder.
Dose and Administration: Insert 1–2 g daily starting on day 5 of cycle (or at any time if cycles have ceased) for 3 weeks, repeated after a 1-week interval
Vaginal and vulval infections
CLOTRIMAZOLE:
Indications: Vulvovaginal Candidiasis.
Contraindications: Abdominal Pain of Unknown Cause.
Dose and Administration: Cream, Apply to anogenital area 2–3 times daily. Pessary, Insert 1 pessary at night as a single dose; can be repeated once if necessary
MICONAZOLE NITRATE:
Indications: Vulvovaginal Candidiasis.
Contraindications: Abdominal Pain with Cramps, Genital Organ Pruritus, Vaginal Burning, Vaginal Discharge, And Vaginal Irritation.
Dose and Administration: Vaginal cream, Insert 5-g applicatorful once daily for 10–14 days or twice daily for 7 days; course can be repeated once if necessary; topical, apply to anogenital area twice daily. Vaginal ovules, Insert 1 ovule at night as a single dose; can be repeated once if necessary.
ECONAZOLE NITRATE:
Indications: Vulvovaginal Candidiasis.
Contraindications: Abdominal Pain of Unknown Cause.
Dose and Administration: adult and adolescent over 16 years, insert 1 pessary for 3 nights; course can be repeated once if necessary.
CLINDAMYCIN:
Indications: Bacterial Vaginosis.
Contraindications: Crohn’s Disease, Pseudomembranous Enterocolitis,
Ulcerative Colitis, Vulvovaginal Candidiasis.
Dose and Administration: Bacterial vaginosis, insert 5-g applicatorful at night for 3–7 nights.
METRONIDAZOLE:
Indications: Bacterial Vaginosis.
Contraindications: Lactating Mother, Alcohol Intoxication, Alcoholism, Lower Seizure Threshold, Peripheral Neuropathy, and Seizure Disorder.
Dose and Administration: Bacterial vaginosis, insert 1 Vaginal tablet at night
for 5 nights.
POLICRESULEN:
Indications: Local treatment of cervicovaginal inflammations or infections and tissue damage (vaginal and cervical discharge caused by bacteria, trichomonads and fungal infections).
Contraindications: in case of hypersensitivity to any of its constituents.
Dose and Administration: insert 1 Vaginal tablet at night for 6 nights. The duration of use depends on the nature and severity of the infection.
POVIDONE-IODINE:
Indications: Unspecific vaginitis, mixed vaginal infections, candidal vaginitis, trichomonal vaginitis or preoperative preparation of the vagina.
Contraindications: in case of hypersensitivity to any of its constituents.
Dose and Administration: once a day for 14 days throughout the menstrual cycle, 30ml added to a liter of warm water and douche using appropriate vaginal applicator before bedtime.
